Base Camp
We will be based in the Tahoe Basin for our rooming accommodations. Picturesque Lake Tahoe is located 2 hours east of Sacramento and sits like a brilliant blue jewel in the Tahoe Basin, high in the Sierra Mountains at 6,250 feet above sea level. Tahoe is home to popular Heavenly Ski Resort and was the site of the Squaw Valley Winter Olympic Games in 1960. Explorer John C. Fremont first viewed lake Tahoe from Red Lake Peak in 1844 and the first towns around the lake sprung up soon after. Tahoe is still a popular tourist destination for those seeking a summer escape from the California heat.
Housing Accommodations
Nestled deep into the El Dorado forest, our Tahoe rental home is a large 7 bedroom, 4 bath luxury home complete with hot tub, sauna game room and massive private decks. The modern but warm interior and spacious common areas encourage group bonding as we enjoy Tahoe in style! We chose this space for its privacy, its proximity to the spectacular sites Tahoe has to offer and its breathtaking interior design. See pictures HERE:
All packages include either a twin, double, queen, or king bed and some shared rooms have bunk beds. No camper will have to sleep on couches, futons, trundles, or air mattresses to ensure a quality night sleep.
Meals
All meals; breakfast, lunch and dinner, will be provided by Go Run Vacations starting with afternoon appetizers on day one as campers arrive. On the last day of camp, a breakfast after the run will conclude the camp meals directly before departure.
Group Size
There will be a minimum of 8 runners and a maximum of 14 runners. Spots are available on a first-come, first-served basis!
Altitude Training
There is a reason that many of the best runners in the world train at elevation. High altitude offers a higher production of red blood cells that help carry more oxygen to hard-working muscles. This allows an athlete the ability to push harder and maintain better fitness when it comes time to race at sea level. Lake Tahoe is at the perfect elevation to help you get a nice fitness boost heading into the fall racing season!
Training Advice
Michael has been training and coaching for many years, so all questions about recovery, training philosophy, mental strategy, or any other running related questions are welcome! There will be plenty of time to get to know Michael and Nick (as well as your fellow campers) so feel free ask as many questions as you like! A running seminar on training/recovery will also be provided with a question and answer session.
Travel Requirements
All guests should arrive at the Vacation Rental or Reno-Tahoe Airport by 2pm on the first day of camp to take advantage of the Go Run Shuttle Service to Tahoe. The Reno-Tahoe International Airport is the local airport. Departure from camp will be at 11am on day 5 for those driving, and for those flying, please have your flight set for after 2pm as the airport is an 80 minute drive from Lake Tahoe. Please plan your travel accommodations accordingly. Once all itineraries are collected, pick-up and drop-off schedules will be provided for all guests.
Tahoe Transportation Centers
(Flight not included in trip price)
Transportation To/From Sacramento International Airport
(Flight and shuttle to Tahoe not Included In Trip Price)
If you choose to fly into Sacramento International Airport (SMF), the price may be less expensive but a rental car would be required to make the drive to Tahoe.
Running Requirements
Altitude training is a little more difficult than sea level training, so while runners of all abilities are welcomed, we recommend erring on the side of caution and taking it nice and easy for the first few days of camp. The air is thinner, and it is recommended that all runners slow down their paces by at least 20-40 seconds per mile to compensate. Distances of each run will vary and will cater to all training needs, whether you run every day or are the non-running spouse of someone who dragged you along on this trip. Each venue has a natural beauty of its own so feel free to walk the route we are at if you wish. The maximum amount of running each morning will be 10miles/16km. You will have free time to double that day if you need extra mileage. The running venues will be a mixture of manicured dirt roads, moderate terrain single track trails, and/or paved bike paths.
